Ghanaian agribusiness Farmer Globale and digital banking platform Affinity Africa were shortlisted at the Africa Sustainable Futures Awards in the United Kingdom, a ceremony hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) from 21‑22 October 2026.
The awards highlighted how homegrown innovation can bolster climate resilience, widen financial inclusion and generate economic opportunities for underserved communities across Africa.
Farmer Globale, founded in 2017, promotes a climate‑smart rice value chain that uses Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) to reduce water use while boosting yields. Its integrated model links smallholder farmers to financing, mechanisation, extension services, processing facilities and markets, and seeks to open carbon finance markets for rural producers.

With a network of more than 20,000 farmers, the company demonstrates how sustainable agricultural practices can improve livelihoods and contribute to environmental stewardship.
Affinity Africa, launched in 2024, offers a fully digital banking platform that uses technology and behavioural data to create financial identities and provide responsible lending. Since its launch, the platform has reached more than 150,000 customers, roughly two‑thirds of whom are first‑time users of formal financial services.

Both organisations share a belief that innovation must translate into tangible benefits for people, whether through higher farm incomes or easier access to credit and savings.
Their inclusion in the awards underscores the growing role of Ghanaian businesses in addressing Africa’s pressing challenges—climate change, agricultural productivity and financial exclusion—while linking commercial success to social and environmental outcomes.
As Africa continues to face climate vulnerability and financial exclusion, firms like Farmer Globale and Affinity Africa illustrate how locally developed solutions can drive inclusive and sustainable growth across the continent.
