Otto Addo Files FIFA Complaint Over GFA Contract Termination

Otto Addo, the former Borussia Dortmund manager who took the helm of the Ghana national team in March 2024, has formally complained to FIFA over the abrupt termination of his contract by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The dispute arose after the Black Stars suffered a friendly defeat to Germany in March 2026, prompting the GFA to end Addo’s 34‑month agreement with ten months still left.

At the time of signing, Addo was earning a monthly salary of $50,000. With the contract terminated early, he is now seeking payment for the outstanding period, a claim that exceeds $750,000. JoySports reports that Addo has made several attempts to secure this payment directly from the GFA, but those efforts have not yielded a resolution, leading him to seek FIFA’s intervention.

The GFA has not yet disclosed whether any financial settlement was reached at the time of termination, leaving the exact terms of the dispute unclear. Addo’s complaint to FIFA is a significant escalation, underscoring the seriousness of the alleged unilateral termination and the potential breach of contract under FIFA’s regulations.

As the case proceeds, both parties will need to present evidence regarding the contractual terms, the circumstances of the termination, and any prior negotiations. The outcome could set a precedent for how national associations handle early contract terminations with high‑profile coaches.

Fans and stakeholders in Ghanaian football will be watching closely to see whether FIFA sides with Addo or the GFA, and what implications this may have for future coaching appointments and contractual safeguards within the Ghanaian football system.
