At the Africa Cocoa Finance & Investment Forum in New York, Dr Ransford Anertey Abbey, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), presented a new cocoa financing model designed to strengthen the sector and attract investment.
Abbey outlined reforms focused on improving farmer incomes, expanding domestic cocoa processing and building a more resilient cocoa economy. He highlighted opportunities for investors in processing, sustainability, traceability, farm rehabilitation and value addition, urging partnership with Ghana to develop these areas.
The initiative is backed by Cocoa Capital PLC, which is raising GH¢16.3 billion through a domestic securities programme to finance cocoa purchases and address legacy debt obligations. Abbey noted that the new framework seeks to reduce reliance on traditional offshore syndicated loans and mobilise domestic capital for the cocoa industry.
He also drew attention to the government’s policy target of processing 50 per cent of Ghana’s cocoa beans locally, inviting investors to explore opportunities in the country’s cocoa value chain.
Further details on the financing model and investment prospects will be available through COCOBOD’s official channels and the upcoming investor roadshows across Ghana.
