MTN Ghana has announced that it is finalising the formalities and payment obligations for its recent 5G licence acquisition, a US$202 million investment that has already been reflected in the company’s free cash flow outlook. The payment therefore does not alter MTN’s 2026 free cash flow or dividend projections.
In its quarter‑three 2026 financial report, MTN said the move underscores its commitment to sustaining network quality and building the capacity required to support Ghana’s growing digital connectivity needs. The company received the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) notification of spectrum awards in the 700 MHz and 3 GHz bands, comprising 2×20 MHz in the former and 1×150 MHz in the latter, with licences valid for 15 years.
MTN added that the new spectrum will complement existing assets and strengthen its ability to meet rising demand for high‑speed connectivity and data‑centric services across the country. The telecom operator plans to deploy the spectrum to roll out 5G services, enhance service quality and customer experience as data usage grows, and further strengthen its home broadband proposition, expanding high‑speed connectivity to more households.
The company thanked shareholders, regulators and other stakeholders for their continued support as it undertakes this important investment in Ghana’s telecommunications infrastructure.
