Zenith Bank Ghana Boosts Employee Wellness, SME Support and Digital Lending

On Saturday, October 31, Henry C. Onwuzurigbo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited, announced a renewed focus on employee wellness, SME financing and digital banking during the bank’s 21st Anniversary Health Walk. The event, which gathered staff, customers, directors and other stakeholders, was described by Onwuzurigbo as a milestone that marked the bank’s transition from maturity to adulthood.

He said the bank views the health and well‑being of its employees and customers as essential to overall performance, adding that a fit workforce is necessary to deliver strong results. The annual health walk, which encourages physical fitness and strengthens relationships, has seen growing participation, with several branches organising smaller walks and customers taking up the exercise independently.

Beyond wellness, Onwuzurigbo highlighted Zenith Bank’s efforts to expand financial support for small and medium‑sized enterprises. The SME Fair, part of the anniversary celebrations, allows businesses to showcase products and services, while a virtual SME Empowerment Programme on the bank’s YouTube channel helps entrepreneurs understand products and learn from beneficiaries. The bank also organised a car show to connect buyers with financing opportunities.

On digital banking, the CEO noted that Zenith Bank has introduced multiple digital channels to serve customers, especially corporate clients, and has partnered with fintech firms, including MTN, to offer digital lending solutions. These partnerships employ credit‑scoring systems to assess prospective borrowers and improve access to funding for traders and small businesses.

Onwuzurigbo urged business owners with genuine ventures to seek support from financial institutions, explaining that banks can help structure businesses and secure financing for expansion. He also highlighted products tailored to traders, farmers and other remote community businesses, as well as offerings for affluent clients with international travel and specialised financial needs.

With these initiatives, Zenith Bank aims to position itself to seize emerging opportunities and provide financial solutions that support customers through the next phase of economic activity. The CEO expressed confidence in the bank’s readiness to meet the financial needs and growth ambitions of individuals and businesses alike.
