According to figures released by John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, a total of 620,243 candidates comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females registered for the examination across 20,789 participating schools.
Key highlights of the examination demographics include:
Test Accommodations: The candidate pool included 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs, and 510 candidates requiring other specialized test accommodations.
Centers & Attendance: The exam was administered across 2,237 centers nationwide. A total of 3,601 candidates were recorded absent.
Crackdown on Malpractices
Following the conclusion of investigations into irregularities detected during the examination and marking phases, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, approved severe sanctions:
Subject Results Cancelled: 496 candidates.
Entire Results Cancelled: 105 candidates.
Subject Results Withheld: 119 candidates.
Entire Results Withheld: 48 candidates.
Additionally, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further scrutiny. WAEC indicated that these withheld results will either be released or fully cancelled based on the outcome of ongoing investigations by August 31, 2026.

Fraud Caution & Acknowledgments
WAEC issued a stern warning to candidates, parents, and school administrators to guard against scammers promising to "upgrade" examination scores for money. The Council emphasized that its results database is fully secured and easily authenticable.
Concluding the announcement, WAEC expressed its appreciation to key partners including the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners for their role in ensuring the successful conduct of the exams and subsequent release of results.
