GCB Bank Emphasises Daily Customer Loyalty Over Annual Celebrations

GCB Bank PLC’s Head of Customer Experience, George Ofei, has released a statement urging banks and other organisations to focus on daily customer interactions rather than relying on October’s Customer Service Month celebrations. Ofei says that while annual appreciation events can boost morale, they do not compensate for poor service throughout the year.

"Customer Service Month should therefore be more than a celebration. It should be an opportunity to assess performance, address gaps and recommit to improving experiences," Ofei wrote. He added that customers judge organisations not by how they celebrate once a year, but by how consistently they meet their needs.

Ofei distinguishes between customer service and customer experience, noting that the former refers to support during interactions, while the latter covers the entire journey from opening an account to resolving issues. He stresses that reliable, convenient services, accurate information and respectful employees are essential, but that slow processes or inconsistent communication can still frustrate customers.

According to Ofei, listening to customers is only useful if it leads to action. He urges banks to analyse feedback, identify recurring issues and address root causes, rather than merely resolving complaints case by case. Even when immediate solutions are not possible, he argues, transparency and honest communication can build trust.

Ofei also highlights that customer experience is a collective responsibility. An unresolved request or system failure can undermine frontline staff’s efforts, and leaders must set clear standards and hold teams accountable. By aligning people, processes and technology around customer needs, organisations can deliver consistent service.

He concludes that loyalty grows when customers can rely on an organisation to respond promptly, provide accurate information, resolve issues fairly and honour commitments. Consistency, he says, builds trust, strengthens relationships and supports long‑term growth.

GCB Bank’s message comes at a time when customers have many options and expect seamless experiences. The bank’s approach underscores that celebrations are valuable, but the real measure of success lies in everyday interactions and continuous improvement.
