Alexis Mac Allister, 27, told reporters before Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid that the club had not offered him a new contract, a decision that left him “very sad.”
The Argentine, who joined the Reds from Brighton on a five‑year deal in June 2023, noted that teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch had both secured fresh deals earlier this year.
Mac Allister said he has always given his all in training and matches, and that he remains committed to Liverpool until the end of his current contract, which runs until 2026.
He added that he has not had direct contact with the club regarding the decision, but that he still believes he is in the right club and will continue to give 100 per cent.
Following the Reds’ 2024‑25 Premier League triumph, Mac Allister reflected that the season had not been his best individually and that the team finished fifth last year, leading to the sacking of manager Arne Slot.
New head coach Andoni Iraola has used Mac Allister as a starter in the opening games of the current campaign, and the Argentine said he respects Iraola’s approach and hopes for a successful year together.
