In a Tarkwa Circuit Court hearing, 50‑year‑old palm wine tapper Obedie Brekpo was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for repeatedly stabbing farmer Paul Dabuo in the back and stomach.
The judge, Her Honour Bernice Mensima Ackon, accepted Brekpo’s guilty plea and convicted him of causing harm. Detective Chief Inspector Bright Nkansah, who prosecuted the case, recounted the events that led to the assault.
On 30 June 2026 at about 0630 hours, Brekpo approached Dabuo’s home in Cape Town, Tarkwa‑Nsuaem Municipality, and asked him to ride his motorbike to New Atuabo to collect money owed by a customer. Dabuo agreed and accompanied him to the customer’s residence, only to discover the customer was still asleep.
While on the motorbike, Brekpo allegedly pulled a jackknife from his clothing and stabbed Dabuo several times in the back and stomach. He also bit the farmer twice on the back and, when Dabuo tried to wrest the knife away, used it to cut Dabuo’s left fingers.
After inflicting multiple injuries, Brekpo fled the scene. Residents who found Dabuo bleeding rushed him to a hospital, and he reported the incident to the Tarkwa Police Station the same day. Police investigations led to Brekpo’s arrest on 7 July 2026. During interrogation, he admitted the offence and claimed he did not know what had come over him.
Following his arraignment and guilty plea, the court imposed the 10‑year sentence with hard labour. The case underscores the seriousness of violent offences within the community.
