Inspector‑General of Police Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno announced that police had nabbed several suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, the attempted robbery of banks in Labone, Accra, and violent attacks on gold buyers in the Western and Ashanti regions. The arrests followed a week‑long intelligence‑led operation that produced seven major breakthroughs, including the recovery of weapons, ammunition and vehicles.
Abraham Awundok, 32, was arrested for the murder of the Amuahs, who had been reported missing in April 2026. Investigators found the couple’s remains and confirmed the crime after a thorough search of their home and other sites. Awundok, who had worked as an errand boy for the couple, allegedly stole their phones, money and private vehicle before fleeing to the United Arab Emirates. He was deported from Dubai to Ghana on August 30, 2026, after an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued.
In Labone, the police foiled an attempted robbery that had been planned by a syndicate that monitored bank customers and used master keys to open vehicles. Two suspects were shot dead, another escaped, and a third was arrested. The group, led by Harrison Chinedu and Dan, had used a Toyota Highlander and a Hyundai Tucson to carry out the attacks. The operation also recovered a Blow F90 pistol and 13 vehicle registration numbers.
In the Western Region, officers dismantled a robbery gang that had operated in Wassa Akropong, Diaso, Dome, Abofour Camp and the Manso enclave. Five suspects were arrested and one died during the operation. The police seized three AK‑47 assault rifles, five magazines, 357 rounds of ammunition and two vehicles. Among those arrested were Clinton Mawuli, 33; Richmond Mensah, alias “Master Abey”; Daniel Sarfo, alias “Abedi”; and Prince Duker.
Another operation in Agona Nkwanta led to the arrest of five suspects linked to the robbery and murder of 40‑year‑old gold buyer Seth Kobina. The suspects, including Amponsah, Christopher Seyiri, Bashiru Ibrahim and Thomas Odoom, were taken into custody after police recovered two locally manufactured pistols, five live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
Special teams have been deployed to the affected areas to strengthen security and ensure residents can continue their activities without disruption. The police will continue to investigate the cases and are expected to bring additional suspects to justice in the coming weeks.
