Dr Abed‑Nego Lamangin Bandim, the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, urged locals to allow peace to prevail after a flare‑up of sporadic gunfire between rival clans. He said the area has returned to relative calm following joint police and military patrols, but warned that continued violence could derail ongoing development works.
Bandim highlighted that several projects are underway, including new schools and Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds. He noted that many workers on these sites are not from the area and may leave if they feel unsafe, jeopardising the completion of the projects.
The MP stressed that the government’s investment in contractors and workers would be wasted if the work cannot be carried out. He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies and refrain from actions that could inflame the situation.
Authorities are reportedly considering a full curfew in Bunkpurugu to restore calm and prevent further attacks, amid fears that the renewed gunfire could spark a wider conflict.
