Real Betis returned to Champions League action with a 2‑1 win over Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, the match ending 2‑1 after a late winner from Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott. Parrott’s low shot into the far corner proved decisive as Betis rallied from a first‑half deficit.
Lille dominated the opening 45 minutes, but a late red card for French midfielder Ethan Mbappé turned the tide. The dismissal left Lille with ten men, and Betis seized the opportunity to level and then take the lead.
Ayase Ueda opened the scoring for Betis with a close‑range header off a well‑weighted cross from Ethan Mbappé. Lille replied through Alexsandro, who headed in a corner from Gaëtan Perrin to restore the lead. Just three minutes after the restart, Marc Bartra equalised with a header from a whipped cross by Pablo Fornals.
Bartra again levelled for Betis with a slight headed touch from an Isco free‑kick, but it was Parrott who sealed the win with a low effort that slipped past keeper Berke Özer. Lille’s attempts to equalise were thwarted even after bringing on former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
Mbappé was shown a red card after an alleged elbow on Natan, further weakening Lille’s attack. The result leaves Betis on course to host Porto on 14 October, while Lille head to Arsenal for their next Champions League fixture on 13 October.
