The La Traditional Council has urged the Post‑Flood Mitigation Task Force to conduct a comprehensive demolition of every structure within the buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon, rather than limiting the effort to a single neighbourhood.
La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, explained that protecting the lagoon from encroachment is essential to prevent future flooding and to preserve its natural drainage system.
His call comes after the Task Force, led by General Okai Yeboah, Director‑General of Joint Operations of the Ghana Armed Forces, carried out a demolition exercise at the Laboma enclave.
Speaking to the outlet, Koofeh IV said the council would closely monitor the authorities’ work to ensure the lagoon is restored and protected.
“The Task Force said it is a national exercise, so we will want them to stick to their words. It shouldn’t be selective. It should be holistic. It shouldn’t only be the Laboma area. The entire Kpeshie enclave and other wetlands in the country should all be tackled so that there will be fairness,” he said. “They said they will restore the place, we are going to monitor and hold them to their word.”
