A 15‑year‑old Ghanaian immigrant, identified as Javits Frimpong, was shot in the Bronx, New York City, on Thursday, Oct. 29. Police confirmed the teenager died at a hospital after being struck in the abdomen near the intersection of Crotona Place and East 171st Street shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Surveillance footage captured a fleeing figure matching a police description: a man in a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a mask, seen running about a block before collapsing. Police are searching for three men suspected of the shooting; two were last seen wearing surgical masks and all were in black clothing.
In a statement to journalists, Frimpong’s father, Thomas Frimpong, revealed that his son had moved to the United States from Ghana about a year ago and had complained of bullying at school. He added that two students had been suspended for repeatedly harassing his son.
