At the 30th GJA Media Awards in Accra, President Albert Dwumfour announced that Ghana will host the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) Conference in early 2027 after the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) secured the bid. The announcement followed the GJA’s recent successes in winning the African Media Convention and the FAJ Steering Committee Meeting, all of which were highlighted as part of a series of continental achievements over the past four years.

Dwumfour described the FAJ Conference win as a double victory for Ghana, noting that the achievements extend beyond the GJA to elevate the country’s profile and influence in Africa’s media landscape. He added that the event would provide a platform for Ghana to contribute to discussions on the future of journalism across the continent, including press freedom, professional standards and the safety of media practitioners.

According to Dwumfour, the conference will be held under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, underscoring the event’s high profile and the country’s commitment to democratic governance and media development. The GJA is expected to begin preparations ahead of the conference, scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

With the FAJ Conference on its agenda, Ghana aims to strengthen international partnerships and create opportunities for its journalists to shape continental conversations on journalism’s evolving role. The event is anticipated to bring together reporters, editors and media professionals from across Africa, fostering dialogue on key issues that affect the industry today.

As preparations move forward, the GJA will likely focus on logistical arrangements, security protocols and engagement with African Union officials to ensure the conference’s success. The upcoming event is expected to reinforce Ghana’s position as a leading hub for media excellence in Africa.
