A 32‑year‑old electrician, Mohammed Ibrahim, also known as Ahmed, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for burglary and the theft of gold concentrate valued at GH¢100,000 and cash of GH¢20,000.
The offence took place at a licensed gold buyer’s shop in Wassa Akropong, Western Region, on 20 May 2026 at about 12:00 a.m. Ibrahim and his accomplice, identified as Karikari, also known as KK, broke into the premises through a side wall using a hammer, creating a hole for entry.
Ibrahim and Karikari were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit crime, stealing, unlawful entry and causing unlawful damage. Ibrahim was also charged with possession of an instrument intended or adapted for unlawful entry. He pleaded guilty to all charges except the latter, which the prosecution later withdrew.
The court, presided over by Victoria Vera Akonu, convicted Ibrahim on his plea and imposed the four‑year sentence. Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Ahiabor led the prosecution, noting that the complainant, Kingdom Mantey, manager of Kingdom Gold Shop, discovered the break‑in in the morning and that CCTV footage captured the suspects.
Following the arrest at his hideout in Wassa Japa, Ibrahim admitted involvement and named Karikari as his accomplice. He explained that after the break‑in, they transported the stolen gold concentrate in a sack to a ghetto in Wassa Japa for processing and sale, only to be allegedly robbed of the goods by two individuals, Gawu and Onane.
With the conviction secured, Ibrahim will serve his sentence at the Tarkwa Correctional Centre, while the case against Karikari remains pending as he is at large.
