On Tuesday, September 22, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, addressed chiefs and residents along the Dome‑Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase corridor, declaring that the government will not pay compensation to those who have erected structures within the road’s right‑of‑way.
Agbodza said that some occupants knowingly built along the road corridor, fully aware that the area had been earmarked for the project. He added that such persons cannot expect the state to reimburse them for the structures they deliberately constructed.
Speaking from the dummy roundabout, the minister cautioned that residents and property owners should desist from further development within the reservation. “I can see from the dummy roundabout, when you are coming from the roundabout, on your right‑hand side, even as everybody in this country is aware that that section is going to be dualised, I could see some people busily building. Unfortunately, you will not get one cedi of compensation out of that,” he said.
Agbodza warned that the government would not tolerate continued building. “So, if you are continuously building from the dummy roundabout, thinking that somebody is coming to pay you compensation, unfortunately, you won’t get one penny,” he added.
The minister’s remarks come as the road project moves forward, with authorities urging compliance with the designated corridor to avoid further legal and financial complications.
