Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams announced that the Cabinet has approved the appointment of a facility manager for the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra. The 1,000‑capacity multipurpose venue, commissioned in 2024 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo for the 13th African Games, houses a 10‑lane competition pool, an eight‑lane warm‑up pool and a sports hall that can seat 1,000 spectators for basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis and weightlifting.
Adams said the manager will be tasked with overseeing the complex and mobilising resources through a public‑private partnership arrangement. The partnership could help fund the completion of some unfinished infrastructure at the facility, which was reportedly built at a cost of $145.1 million.
He added that the complex had not been properly developed as originally envisioned, and that the new manager would address maintenance and management concerns that mirror the deteriorating condition of other major sporting venues such as Accra Sports Stadium, Essipong Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
"We have received Cabinet approval for a facility manager. The facility manager will also have the capacity to mobilise resources through a kind of PPP arrangement to invest in completing the infrastructure there," Adams said. "There was no proper development of the place as it was originally envisioned," he added.
The appointment is expected to bring professional oversight to the complex and ensure that it meets the standards required for international competitions.
