CD Tenerife Striker Jesus de Miguel Dies After Collision With Andorra Goalkeeper

CD Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel was declared dead after a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a LaLiga 2 match on Monday afternoon.

The match, which had already seen two red cards, was tied 2-2 when a high ball in the seventh minute of stoppage time sent De Miguel airborne. Owono, unable to use his hands, attempted to clear the ball but struck the forward hard on the head.

Medics treated De Miguel for several minutes before moving him onto a stretcher and transporting him to hospital. He suffered a cardiac arrest, but resuscitation restored his heartbeat. Although his condition appeared to stabilise that evening, Tenerife reported on Tuesday that it had deteriorated, and the striker died shortly thereafter as a result of the foul.
