Ghana’s Amadu Mohammed lost a 3‑2 split decision to Zambian Mwengo Mwale in the featherweight final of the 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

Mohammed, who had claimed bronze at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, was aiming to add a continental title to his growing résumé but was stopped by an equally determined opponent who carried a cut from the semi‑final.

The bout saw Mwale avenge his loss to Mohammed at the Accra African Games, securing his third gold medal of the tournament after victories over Albert Ngulube and Gerald “Boyka” Kabinda.

Ghana finished the championships with two medals, silver for Mohammed and bronze for Charles Kwarteng, while Zambia’s Mwale added another gold to its tally.

Meanwhile, Catherine Mwape also earned a silver medal in the women’s division.

The event highlighted the competitive spirit of African boxing, with athletes from across the continent vying for continental glory.
