NPP Accused of Targeting Foreign Affairs Minister Ablakwa for Exposing Alleged Misconduct

On JoyNews’ PM Express, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey accused the New Patriotic Party of launching a campaign against Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for exposing alleged wrongdoing under the NPP administration. Kwetey challenged the opposition to produce evidence that the minister had stolen public funds, arguing that the attack was retaliation for his role in holding the NPP to account while it was in government.

He said, “They come at you with every venom; they want to destroy at all costs.” When asked whether Ablakwa was being targeted for his previous actions, Kwetey replied, “Of course, it’s targeted.” His remarks followed a youth wing protest in Accra over the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa, where the party has questioned a GH¢16.4 million discrepancy and demanded flight invoices, payment records, a full beneficiary list and an independent audit.

During the interview, the host raised concerns about signatures and alleged duplications in documents released by ministries. Kwetey dismissed those concerns as peripheral, insisting that Ablakwa’s disclosures involved “hardcore evidence” of theft and abuse. He added that complaints about payments raised months after recipients allegedly collected their money should have been reported at the airport, not months later.

Kwetey warned that the NPP would struggle to recover politically if it continued on its current path, saying, “You’re going to remain in this position for a long time unless you wake up and realise that Ghanaians have long passed this very low‑level politicking.” He also noted that pressure to find scandals had contributed to his decision to leave his role as ranking member for Trade and Industry after the 2016 election defeat.
