At the Volta Economic Forum in Ho, EXIM Bank chief executive officer Sylvester Adinam Mensah revealed that the bank is preparing to establish a new garment and apparel factory in the Volta Region, following the successful launch of the Northshore Apparel Hub in Savelugu.
Mr Mensah said President John Dramani Mahama has expressed a preference for the new facility to be sited in Volta, where it would support the President’s Reset Agenda by generating employment and strengthening local manufacturing.
“As you observed in the Northern Region, through the instrumentality of Ghana Exim Bank, we established a garment and apparel factory to address significant employment opportunities. Indeed, this falls within President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, and it is our hope that the next garment and apparel factory will be sited in the Volta Region,” he disclosed.
He urged stakeholders to move beyond discussing the region’s economic potential and begin developing projects that could transform Volta into a centre for production, exports and job creation.
“The project will create jobs across southern Volta, drawing workers from Keta, Anloga, Denu, Afiadenyigba, Abor, Akatsi, Klikor, Agbozume, Dabala and Dzodze,” Mr Mensah added.
The forum, part of this year’s yam festival celebrations, carried the theme “Transforming Potentials into Wealth for the Volta Region.”
Northshore Apparel Hub, the first regenerative, zero‑waste apparel manufacturing hub in Ghana, was commissioned by President Mahama and has already created more than 2,300 direct jobs. The facility operates 24 hours a day, producing garments for local and international markets, and was funded by Ghana EXIM Bank, German Development Bank KfW and the Agricultural Development Bank.
Stakeholders are now called upon to turn the Volta Region’s potential into tangible projects, with the new factory seen as a key step toward sustainable job creation and export growth.
