President John Dramani Mahama announced on Saturday, November 7, at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival that seven companies have been shortlisted to partner with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) on the proposed Keta Port in the Volta Region. The firms were selected from 47 expressions of interest received by the authority as potential strategic investors for the project.
Speaking to festival attendees, Mahama said the selection followed a due‑diligence process and that the shortlisted companies will move on to the next stage of development. He added that the next phase would involve finalising project designs and securing the necessary financing to pave the way for construction.
He also disclosed that the administration block for the port, which began under the previous administration, is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027. The president reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the Keta Port project, which is expected to create economic opportunities for communities in the Volta Region.
