In a stern warning to commercial vehicle owners, the Upper West Regional Police Command has said that vehicles found to be used for drug trafficking may be seized. DCOP Francis Yiribaare told motorists to ensure their vehicles are not involved in illicit transport, adding that the police can apply for forfeiture if a vehicle is linked to drug smuggling.
The alert comes after the arrest of two suspects in Wa who were linked to a suspected drug trafficking case. Forensic examination confirmed 192 wraps of cocaine, a first‑of‑its‑kind seizure in the region. The suspects remain in custody and are due to appear in court on October 9, 2026.
Yiribaare described the operation as the first of its kind in Upper West and said investigators are probing whether this signals a new dimension of drug trafficking in the area. He highlighted the police’s intensified intelligence‑led operations, including “foot intelligence,” to identify and arrest others involved.
He warned that drug trafficking is a serious offence and that anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to law. Vehicle owners who allow their cars to be used for drug transport face the risk of forfeiture and legal action.
Police are urging commercial operators to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity that could implicate their vehicles in drug smuggling.
