Three Nigerians Arrested for Bank Customer Robberies in Kumasi

The Ghana Police Service arrested three Nigerian nationals on Saturday, 31 October 2026, for their alleged role in a series of robberies that targeted bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities. Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit, confirmed the arrests followed an intelligence‑led operation by the IGP’s Special Team.

The raid, conducted at about 11.30 p.m., involved personnel from the Anti‑Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. The operation led to the arrest of Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, Kumasi. A search of their rooms uncovered GH¢1,600 in cash, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key suspected of being used to access vehicles belonging to bank customers.

Investigations suggest the suspects monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew large sums, and followed them before robbing them. They also allegedly broke into unattended vehicles using a master key to steal cash kept inside. During interrogation, the two arrested suspects admitted their involvement and provided information about two other alleged accomplices: Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.

Acting on the information, police arrested the third suspect, Kingsley, alias KC, 35, at a hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi. The fourth alleged member, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large. The command is appealing to the public for credible information to locate him and has urged anyone with information to report to the nearest police station or contact emergency numbers 191 and 112 or the toll‑free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The suspects also admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, after the individual withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank. They further admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its surrounding communities. The three arrested suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Police have urged bank customers to exercise caution when conducting financial transactions, particularly when withdrawing large sums of money or leaving banking premises.
