Techiman SHS Incident: Two Teachers Assault Final-Year Student

A disturbing video that has circulated on social media shows two teachers assaulting a final‑year student at Techiman Senior High School in the Bono East Region. The footage, which has sparked widespread outrage, captures the men stepping on the student’s head.

The teachers identified in the clip are Mr Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe and Mr Adusa Ameyaw. The incident has been referred to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for urgent investigation following instructions from the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, confirmed the directive in a Facebook post. “At the instance of the Honourable Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, I have referred the attached disturbing video—said to be a violent incident at Techiman SHS involving some teachers and a student—to the Director‑General of the Ghana Education Service for urgent investigation,” Dr Apaak wrote. He added that the Director‑General has been directed to apply the necessary sanctions to the offending parties.

“Misconduct will not be tolerated in our schools from any stakeholder, be it teaching and non‑teaching staff, students or parents. We have a mandate to ensure that our schools remain safe for all—students, teaching and non‑teaching staff—at all times,” he stated.

In a statement released on October 31, 2026, the GES, signed by Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, said the school’s disciplinary committee had held its initial hearing on the matter. “The committee’s findings are expected to be submitted to Management through the Regional Directorate in the coming days to inform further action and decisions,” the statement read.

The student involved, Seedorf Abeka Ampah, a final‑year Agricultural Science pupil, has received medical attention and is responding positively to treatment, the GES said.

The GES has urged the public to remain calm as it conducts a thorough investigation into the matter. Further updates will be released once the committee’s findings are available.
