In a joint operation, the Upper West Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) destroyed several cannabis farms in Siiru, a community in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region.

Intelligence gathered by GIS led the teams to suspected cultivation sites near the Black Volta. They found multiple locations where cannabis was being grown, some plants already harvested, others at various stages of maturity and ready for harvest.

Further searches uncovered farms in unfinished buildings, in front of homes and alongside maize fields, indicating that illegal cultivation was spread across the community.

The identified plants were burned to destroy the crop. After the operation, officers held an education and sensitisation exercise with residents, warning them of the dangers and consequences of cannabis cultivation and substance abuse.

The team urged locals to support the fight against illicit drug cultivation and distribution by reporting suspicious activity to the authorities.
