Jimmy Alla‑Mensah, better known as Prophet Jimmy, spent the first twenty years of his adult life as a network and security engineer, working for firms such as Verizon and Lockheed Martin. He earned multiple Cisco certifications and built a career that he once believed he could predict.
In November 2006, however, he left the corporate world to pursue a prophetic calling that had begun to crystallise after he became born‑again on 14 April 2004. He says the decision was not born of career failure but of a growing conviction that God had a different assignment for him.
Unlike his engineering background, prophetic ministry offered no formal training, no prior ministry experience, and no chance to understudy an established minister. Prophet Jimmy had to learn on the job, relying on prayer, Scripture study, personal discipline and the experiences that came with the role.
He has learned that anointing does not replace wisdom, that a calling does not erase the need for character, and that spiritual gifts do not exempt anyone from learning. The demands of ministry have brought him face‑to‑face with people dealing with sickness, broken relationships, financial hardship, hopelessness and spiritual struggle.
“My engineering career gave me professional fulfilment. Ministry has given me the opportunity to participate in something that reaches deeply into the lives of people,” he says. He acknowledges the joy of serving comes with sacrifices but remains grateful for the privilege of serving God and people.
The journey has not been without hardship. He watched a church he helped build shrink from about 300 congregants to just ten, a painful lesson that success cannot be measured solely by attendance or popularity.
Looking back, he says he would advise his younger self to stay humble, learn from mistakes, care for his health and protect his family, reminding himself that ministers are human beings who need encouragement and rest.
Prophet Jimmy will celebrate his twentieth anniversary in prophetic ministry on Sunday, 8 November 2026, at House of Divine Glory Ministry International in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The event will highlight “20 Years of Grace,” “20 Years of Ministry” and “20 Years of God’s Faithfulness,” with the words of 1 Samuel 7:12 echoing the milestone: “HITHERTO HATH THE LORD HELPED US.”
