The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has backed the Minority’s call for an immediate recall of Parliament and the creation of a bipartisan committee to investigate recent drug busts linked to Ghana.
Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP National Organiser, said the scale of the cases required Parliament to reconvene without waiting for the normal parliamentary calendar.
He highlighted that cocaine consignments worth hundreds of millions of dollars had moved through Ghanaian ports and airspace, and that Ghana’s name had appeared in charge sheets in foreign jurisdictions.
According to Boakye, Parliament has a constitutional responsibility to hold the executive to account and cannot effectively perform that role while adjourned.
He urged the Speaker to recall the House without delay and to establish a special bipartisan committee with full powers to summon witnesses, compel the production of documents and conduct its proceedings publicly.
Boakye stressed that the inquiry must be conducted in public, noting that previous government responses had not provided sufficient answers.
