Midwife Comfort Abire Wins Tobinco Award, Weeps on Stage

At the TMG Nurses Forum held in Accra, Senior Midwifery Officer Comfort Abire of Osudoku Health Centre in Asutsuare, Shai‑Osudoku District, was presented with a scholarship to study at Entrance University of Health Sciences and a cash award by Elder Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin, Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies. Abire, who is currently a first‑year resident in Well Woman Care Nursing at the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, broke down in tears as she accepted the award, moving the audience to emotional applause.

Also honoured was Richard Beyanteng, a healthcare worker at Kutunse East Community‑based Health Planning and Services (CHPS). Beyanteng received a motorbike and a cash prize for his contributions to healthcare delivery and service to communities such as Treba Last Stop, New Canada and Nantwiboamu.

The awards were part of a broader effort to recognise hardworking nurses and midwives whose dedication supports healthcare delivery and improves access to essential services. The forum also convened professionals to discuss pressing issues in the nursing and midwifery profession, including workforce retention, migration, graduate unemployment and the role of technology in healthcare.
