Ghanaian Teen Killed in Bronx: Minister Ablakwa Pledges Justice

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa assured the family of 15‑year‑old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong that the government would pursue justice following his fatal shooting in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The minister spoke to the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, on a telephone call on Friday, October 30, and conveyed the condolences of President John Dramani Mahama.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ablakwa said, “We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it.” He also expressed the government’s grief, noting, “We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this.”

Officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York visited the family at their residence that same Friday to offer condolences and solidarity. The ministry condemned the killing and called on Bronx authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Police are searching for three men suspected of involvement in the shooting, which occurred at about 9:20 a.m. as Javits was on his way to school. The teenager, who had moved to the United States from Ghana roughly a year earlier, was shot in the abdomen and later died at a hospital.

The ministry indicated that it, together with the Permanent Mission, would actively pursue the matter in collaboration with U.S. authorities and provide the family with the necessary legal and consular assistance. It also extended its condolences to Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who is in Kumasi, as well as to his friends and other relatives in Ghana and the United States.

Ghana’s commitment to seek justice for the slain teenager underscores the country’s stance on protecting its citizens abroad and highlights the importance of international cooperation in criminal investigations.
