On Saturday, November 7, 2026, Kow Essuman, legal counsel to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo, announced that he had submitted his Expression of Interest to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma West Constituency.
Issuing the declaration on his birthday, Essuman said the decision followed broad consultations within the party, with his family and prayer. “I wish to inform members of the New Patriotic Party and the general public that today, November 7, 2026, which marks my birthday, I submitted my Expression of Interest to contest the Party’s parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma West Constituency,” he said.
He added that he would comply with the party’s directives, including the one issued on October 11, 2026, while awaiting the official timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary selection process. “I will continue to abide by the directives of the Party, including the directive issued on October 11, 2026, and await the Party’s timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary process,” he added.
The NPP has scheduled November 1 to 10, 2026, for prospective parliamentary candidates to declare their intention to contest its primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections. Essuman’s entry places him among those seeking to lead the party’s campaign in a seat the NPP lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2024.
In the 2024 election, Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo of the NDC won the seat, defeating the then‑incumbent NPP MP Ursula Owusu‑Ekuful. If Essuman secures the NPP nomination, he is likely to face Addo in the 2028 parliamentary election.
