TraffiTech Rollout: MP Toobu Urges Motorists Not to Panic

On Saturday, November 7, Peter Lanchene Toobu, the Member of Parliament for Wa West, appeared on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue to discuss the launch of Ghana’s TraffiTech electronic traffic enforcement system. He said the system should have been introduced several years ago, noting that it had undergone a pilot phase from May to October and an extended period of public education before its rollout on November 1.

Mr Toobu explained that the pilot ran for six months and that, after appeals for more time, authorities added an extra month of public education to help motorists become familiar with the new technology. He added that the system is now part of the law and is being implemented gradually, beginning with the offence of speeding.

He warned that while many people are scared, they should not panic, emphasizing that TraffiTech is designed to support the enforcement of road traffic regulations through technology, reducing reliance on manual policing and helping authorities identify motorists who violate traffic laws.

TraffiTech’s launch marks a significant step in Ghana’s road safety strategy, aiming to improve compliance and reduce accidents by leveraging automated enforcement tools.
