Henry Kweku Banning, affectionately known as Big Henry, died in Kumasi on Friday, 26 June 2026 at the age of 74. Born on 21 June 1952, the late patriarch was a respected figure in Kumasi, Accra, Cape Coast, and surrounding communities. The Banning, Prah, and Twidan families, along with close relatives such as Nana Omono Amoako, Akyempimhene of Asante Mampong, and Takyiwaa Twidan Ebusuapanyin Ernest Banning, CEO of Modula Grup and Royal Basin Resort, announced the passing with deep sorrow.
Pre‑burial and filing will take place at St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, Kaase, Kumasi, on Saturday, 3 October 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The memorial and burial service will follow at the same church at 9:00 a.m., with final funeral rites held at Gyamfuah Asenso Park, opposite Asokwa Police Station, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A thanksgiving service is scheduled for Sunday, 4 October 2026, at 8:00 a.m., and a family gathering will be held the same afternoon at Gyamfuah Asenso Park.
Family members include widow Mrs. Mary Banning, children Linda Pokuaa Akowuah (Ejisu, Kumasi), Nana Kofi Peprah Banning (Germany), Mrs. Diana Maame Esi Asabre (Germany), and Mrs. Bridget Ewurama Ben‑Mahmoud (Accra). The dress code for the services is black or black and red on Saturday, and black and white on Sunday. All relatives, friends and sympathisers are cordially invited to attend the ceremonies.
