On 24 February 2026, 20‑year‑old Issah Rahman entered a drinking bar at Tarkwa Railway Station under the pretext of buying a drink. The bar’s owner, businessman Augustus Handson Nuertey, and his salesgirl, Jennifer Anyimedu, were asleep after a night’s work. Rahman opened a drawer and took GH¢4,300, the proceeds from the previous night’s sales, and left the premises.
When Nuertey awoke, he discovered the missing money and reviewed the bar’s closed‑circuit television footage. The footage captured Rahman entering and exiting with the cash, allowing Nuertey to identify him. At about 10:30 a.m. the same day, Nuertey spotted Rahman at the Akoon community mine, arrested him, and handed him over to police for investigation.
Rahman pleaded guilty and was convicted by the Tarkwa Circuit Court, which considered his earlier conviction for causing harm and the prevalence of theft in the Tarkwa Railway community. The court sentenced him to 24 months’ imprisonment in hard labour.
