A new batch of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa arrived at the airport on Monday, received by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and national security agencies.
The arrival follows a communiqué issued over the weekend by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming that arrangements had been finalized to safely bring home citizens affected by recent security developments in South Africa.
The ministry stated that the operation is part of broader state efforts to safeguard Ghanaians living abroad, carried out in coordination with South African authorities and Ghana’s High Commission.
Government officials emphasized their continued commitment to monitoring the situation on the ground and providing necessary support to affected citizens. The evacuation effort comes in response to heightened concerns over the welfare of nationals in the region, which prompted direct intervention from Accra.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured the public that it will maintain active diplomatic channels to safeguard Ghanaian interests in South Africa. Citizens remaining in the country have been advised to keep in close contact with the High Commission for consular assistance as needed.
