Franklin Cudjoe Discharged After Successful Parkinson’s Surgery in Chicago

IMANI Africa Founding President Franklin Cudjoe was discharged from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago after a successful surgery to treat his Parkinson’s disease. He posted on Facebook on Friday, October 6, that he was back in his apartment and would spend the next two weeks healing before the next phase of his treatment.

Earlier, Mr Cudjoe had urged Ghanaians and well‑wishers to pray for him as he prepared for the operation, expressing confidence in the U.S. medical team and thanking those who helped arrange his emergency travel. He noted that the surgery would be a “magic” step forward in his recovery.

Mr Cudjoe, who revealed in January 2026 that he has lived with Parkinson’s for eight years, has been using his public platform to raise awareness of the neurological disorder. He said he plans to use his experience to highlight gaps in specialised neurological care in Ghana, including a shortage of specialists, equipment and medicines.

After the operation, he intends to host neurosurgeons and neurologists in Ghana to advance access to specialist personnel and treatment. He also announced a documentary that will chronicle his journey from Ghana to the United States for the procedure.

He acknowledged the support of businessman Ibrahim Mahama and Ghanaian neurologists, while stressing the need for improved neurological services in the country. The public disclosure of his diagnosis aims to encourage greater awareness and support for people living with Parkinson’s disease.
