Explorco Reports 2025 Profit Growth Ahead of Voltaian Basin Drilling

Explorco, the upstream arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, announced that its financial position strengthened in 2025 as it gears up for a Voltaian Basin drilling campaign slated for the fourth quarter of 2026. The company highlighted increased revenue and profitability, stronger cash generation and a marked drop in overall borrowings at its first Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Accra Marriott Hotel.

Managing Director Samuel Opoku Arthur explained that the improved performance provides a firmer financial base for future investments, though the company remains focused on managing outstanding obligations and receivables. He also reviewed operational progress across the Jubilee, Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) fields and outlined steps to ensure readiness for the upcoming drilling effort.

Board Chairman Dr Aaron Issa Anafure stressed that the transition to direct operatorship would demand technical expertise, disciplined project management, sound procurement and robust risk management. He added that safety, accountability and stakeholder trust are essential to building a credible Ghanaian operator and that the Voltaian Basin project offers a chance to boost national capacity and shape Ghana’s upstream future.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition Richard Gyan‑Mensah urged Explorco to meet its commitments, including launching the drilling campaign on schedule, and to maintain rigorous due diligence throughout execution. The AGM also hosted GNPC CEO Kwame Ntow Amoah, Ministry officials, auditors from Deloitte Ghana and representatives from GNPC subsidiaries such as Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited and Mole Motel Company Limited.

Explorco reaffirmed its pledge to improve operational efficiency, enhance local content participation and uphold high safety standards as it works toward becoming a fully capable, financially disciplined operator. The forthcoming Voltaian Basin campaign will serve as a critical test of the company’s readiness and its ambition to expand Ghanaian involvement in upstream petroleum operations.
