Financial economist and policy analyst Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku has publicly praised the continued expansion of the KGL Group, arguing that the company’s growing size and revenue should be seen as a positive development for Ghana. In a social media post, Dr. Opoku linked KGL’s growth to broader socio‑economic progress, noting that the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) stand to gain significant revenue from the partnership in the coming year.

Beyond paying commissions to the NLA and tax obligations to the GRA, KGL has invested in key sectors such as sports and entertainment. “Despite the negative publicity generated against KGL, the business continues to grow in 2026 through the HAND OF GOD ALMIGHTY. As a result, the REPUBLIC, through the NLA and GRA, stands to benefit even more from the NLA–KGL deal in 2027 & beyond,” the post read.

Dr. Opoku also paid tribute to President John Dramani Mahama for refusing to succumb to what he described as propaganda from certain media outlets calling for the abrogation of the KGL‑NLA contract. He praised the president’s “right, fair and just” approach, stating that the NLA–KGL deal has delivered mutual benefits for all parties and that the public will continue to reap its rewards.

In April 2026, the GRA received a substantial GH¢153.21 million in corporate income tax from the KGL Group as part of voluntary compliance efforts to boost domestic revenue mobilisation.

As the partnership moves forward, Dr. Opoku remains optimistic that KGL’s growth will continue to contribute to Ghana’s economic development while maintaining a strong relationship with the NLA and GRA.
