Police launched an investigation after the 57‑year‑old George Atuguba and his 47‑year‑old niece Irene were shot dead at their residence in the NTHC Estate, Sakumono, Greater Accra, on the morning of October 29, 2026. The killings are reportedly linked to a financial dispute over a GH¢500,000 loan that George allegedly failed to repay.
Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the house following a call from the Sakumono District Police Command. The bodies were discovered lying in a pool of blood and were subsequently taken to a hospital where a medical officer pronounced them dead.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the suspect, identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, entered the house with a woman named Beatrice Mumuni to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly escalated, leading the suspect to shoot the two relatives. The police have not yet released a statement on the suspect’s current status, but are actively searching for him.
The victims’ bodies have been placed at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and aim to bring the suspect to justice.
