The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 34-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy following the circulation of a viral video that showed the minor driving a heavy-duty articulated truck on a public road.
The arrests were made after police intercepted the vehicle—a DAF XF 105 articulated truck with registration number GS 3097-20—and identified the 34-year-old suspect as the driver responsible for the truck.
Stern Warning to Vehicle Owners and Guardians
In a statement released on August 1, law enforcement authorities issued a firm warning to parents, guardians, and commercial vehicle owners against permitting underage or unlicensed individuals to operate motor vehicles.
Police emphasized that allowing minors to drive, particularly heavy commercial vehicles, poses an extreme hazard to public safety and constitutes a direct breach of the law.
"The Ghana Police Service reminds parents, guardians, and vehicle owners not to permit minors or unlicensed persons to operate motor vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks, as such acts endanger lives and violate the Road Traffic Act."
Call for Public Vigilance
The Police Service underscored that public cooperation remains critical in curbing dangerous road offenses and maintaining order across the nation's transit networks.
"The Service urges the public to support efforts to promote road safety by reporting such incidents and ensuring responsible road use."
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident and potential breaches of the Road Traffic Act.
