Interior Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the government’s renewed commitment to enhancing the operational capacity of the Ghana Prisons Service, improving personnel welfare and backing reforms to make the country’s correctional system more effective. The remarks were made at the graduation and commissioning parade of Cadet Course Intakes 33, 34 and 35, held at the Prison Officers Training School in Fumso, Ashanti Region.

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku‑Agyemang, who attended the ceremony, congratulated the newly commissioned officers and urged them to uphold discipline, integrity, dedication and professionalism in their duties. She highlighted government support for prison agriculture, including the provision of tractors, fertilisers and other farm inputs to boost food production and equip inmates with vocational skills.

Professor Opoku‑Agyemang also stressed the importance of rehabilitation and social reintegration, calling on the public to embrace reformed ex‑convicts and help eliminate the stigma associated with imprisonment. Minister Muntaka praised the leadership and personnel of the Service for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to national service, and reiterated his promise to work closely with the Service’s leadership to improve operational efficiency, strengthen institutional capacity and enhance personnel welfare.

He congratulated the newly commissioned officers, urging them to serve with honour, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility. The graduation of the three cadet intakes is part of a broader effort to strengthen the human resource capacity of the Ghana Prisons Service as it moves toward a more effective and humane correctional system.
