Cameroonian authorities say Kedi Samuel Kenechukwu, a Nigerian cleric who has operated in Cameroon since 2018, is now on the run after investigators found a mummified body buried beneath a concrete slab at a property tied to his Mercy of God Ministry in Nkoabang, Yaoundé.
Police from the Nkoabang Special Police Station discovered the body on September 19 at about 9 a.m. during an inquiry into Kenechukwu. The remains were in a white‑and‑gold coffin, about 1.5 metres below the slab, and were initially thought to belong to a woman dressed in a traditional blue outfit with gold embroidery. The corpse appeared deliberately preserved.
The investigation began after residents vandalised the property, exposing part of the ground and prompting a closer inspection. Authorities have yet to identify the deceased or determine how the death occurred. They are awaiting permission to conduct further searches of the site, fearing more remains may be present.
Earlier operations on September 6 and 9 uncovered other suspicious activity at the ministry’s properties, including the discovery of 20 people in a basement of a separate site and the finding of five vehicles, food supplies, freezers, and a pit two metres deep.
Kenechukwu is wanted on charges of human trafficking, kidnapping and unlawful arrest. Cameroonian officials are continuing the search for the cleric to aid investigations into the ministry’s activities.
Investigators are monitoring the situation closely and will release further details as they become available.
