Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) has formally responded to legal action initiated by Clydestone Ghana PLC, firmly rejecting all claims and declaring its intent to vigorously contest the lawsuit in court.
In a regulatory update issued to the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on Thursday, July 30, 2026, MTN Ghana acknowledged receiving the writ of summons and statement of claim filed by Clydestone on July 27, 2026.
The suit which also names MTN Group Limited and Mobile Money Fintech LTD as co-defendants centers on Clydestone’s alleged role in the initial development of mobile financial services in Ghana, touching on events spanning nearly two decades.
"MTN Ghana does not accept the claims made, considers them without merit, and will contest the proceedings fully," stated the official market announcement signed by Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of Scancom PLC.
While MTN Ghana declined to comment further on the substantive legal arguments while the matter is sub judice, the telecom giant reassured customers and shareholders that the lawsuit poses no disruption to its daily activities or financial performance.
The company confirmed that all services including financial operations run by Mobile Money Fintech LTD will continue to operate normally, adding that it will comply with GSE Listing Rules regarding any material legal updates.
The Core of Clydestone’s Claim
The legal clash, filed in the Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra, stems from work Clydestone claims it was commissioned to perform for MTN back in 2007.
According to Clydestone, an indigenous technology firm also listed on the GSE. It was originally engaged to design and develop a comprehensive commercial and operational framework to launch mobile money in Ghana.
Clydestone is seeking judicial declarations, damages, and equitable remedies from the High Court regarding its intellectual contributions and legacy involvement in the service.
