On September 20, the Ahafo Ano South West District in the Ashanti Region lost one of its most impactful leaders. Abubakar Sedik, the district’s former Chief Executive, passed away after a short illness, leaving a legacy of rapid development across the area.
Residents of Mankranso described Sedik as a “great developer” whose two‑year tenure saw roads, schools, health facilities and other infrastructure projects come to fruition. He was praised for an open‑door policy that welcomed people from all backgrounds, listening to their concerns without discrimination.
One grieving resident, tears streaming, said, “Our DCE was not selective. Irrespective of who you were, he would welcome you and listen to your grievances. Oh, death has really been wicked to us.” Another, still in tears, added, “During his tenure as DCE, a lot of developmental projects came to Ahafo Ano South West. If you talk about roads, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure, he contributed greatly to the development of this district. But God knows best. We wish him farewell.”
Following his death, the Muslim community and local residents flooded the streets of Mankranso to pay their final respects. Sedik was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic tradition, with mourners gathering to honour his memory and the progress he championed.
The district now faces the challenge of continuing the projects initiated under Sedik’s leadership, as residents express uncertainty over who will step into his shoes and carry on his development agenda.
