On Thursday, November 5, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mahama Ayariga addressed the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) after the presentation of four dispatch motorcycles to support Aayalolo’s contraflow operations. During the event, he dismissed circulating social‑media reports that an Aayalolo bus had been involved in an accident.
"No Aayalolo bus has been involved in any accident," Mr Ayariga stated. He explained that the buses had only diverted to avoid an accident involving another vehicle before continuing their journey, and that the viral video was a misrepresentation of the incident.
"Somebody captured the accident and then put a voice on it, lying that the Aayalolo buses were involved in an accident," he said, accusing the video’s creator of deliberately misleading viewers with a fabricated voice‑over. Mr Ayariga urged the public to exercise responsibility when sharing information on social media, warning that false reports could create fear and panic among travellers.
He added that the individual responsible for the misleading video could be located through existing technology, but cautioned that pursuing legal action might invite political interpretations. "The technology exists for us to locate that person. And you see, when you locate that person, and you are punishing that person for trying to cause fear and panic, then people start reading all sorts of political meanings into it," he remarked.
