ORC Sets January 17, 2027 Deadline for Business Name Renewal, Threatening Sanctions

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has announced that all business owners must renew their registered names by 17 January 2027 or risk removal from the official register. The notice states that any name not renewed by the deadline will be deemed lapsed, leading to its legal cancellation.

Companies trading under a cancelled name will be in breach of law and liable to sanctions. To avoid removal, owners can renew at any ORC office or via the USSD short code *222#, settling outstanding fees and updating particulars such as address and nature of business.

This move follows the ORC’s broader push to clean up Ghana’s corporate register. Earlier, the Registrar announced the strike‑off of 453 companies and the dissolution of 323 others under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992). The two exercises aim to maintain accurate business records and strengthen compliance.

Business owners who no longer wish to operate under a registered name may submit a written notice to have it removed. For clarification, the ORC can be reached at 0308249841 or via WhatsApp/Telegram at 059-952-5774.
