At the Northern Regional Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign in Tamale, the Cyber Security Authority’s Director of Cybersecurity Awareness, Mary Ama Bawa, urged young people to think carefully about what they share online. She explained that employers increasingly scan social media profiles to gauge a candidate’s conduct before offering a job.
"When you are looking for a job, people go on your social media platforms. They look at your profile and analyse what you have been posting, commenting on and sharing. So, when companies invite you for an interview, that is just a formality. There is a platform where they monitor you," Bawa said.
The director warned that posts, comments and shared content create permanent digital footprints that can affect future employment and career opportunities. She urged the youth to build positive online profiles that reflect the values and qualities they wish employers to see.
Bawa also cautioned against engaging in cybercriminal activities, noting that involvement in online crimes could jeopardise future prospects. She stressed the importance of making informed decisions about online engagements, as cyberspace activities can have lasting implications.
The message comes as Ghana’s job market remains competitive, with employers seeking candidates who present themselves professionally across all platforms.
