On Wednesday, September 23, former New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Anyaa‑Sowutuom Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi accused Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak of failing to be informed about international drug seizures that involved Ghana.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, the MP said the Minister should have known about the narcotics operations before they were intercepted by foreign authorities, given his responsibility for the country’s internal security.
Adomako Kissi warned that the Minister’s apparent lack of awareness “means there’s a breakage in terms of the intelligence‑gathering unit and the Interior Minister” and that such a gap is “not good.”
He added that the Interior Minister should be “sufficiently informed about major security developments, particularly those involving international narcotics trafficking and Ghana’s reputation.”
His remarks followed a series of drug seizures linked to Ghana, including the recent interception by French authorities of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine concealed in a shipment of plastic waste originating from Ghana. The consignment was discovered at the port of Dunkirk, heightening concerns over Ghana’s alleged use as a transit point in international narcotics trafficking.
Adomako Kissi’s comments highlight growing concerns over intelligence coordination and the effectiveness of Ghana’s security apparatus, as the country seeks to protect its international security reputation.
