IFC Targets US$1.2bn for Ghanaian Energy, Infrastructure and Agriculture

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) announced plans to channel about US$1.2 billion into Ghana, targeting sectors such as energy, infrastructure and agriculture to spur job creation and local production.

Managing Director Makhtar Diop said Ghana’s recent debt and inflation adjustments have improved the investment climate, attracting both domestic and international capital.

Speaking after a meeting with Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Diop highlighted the pipeline’s potential to grow as the government explores further opportunities to support the country’s economic transformation.

“At the top of it is energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and to be able to create jobs in this country,” Diop said, noting the IFC’s interest in supporting these sectors while also encouraging local production of goods currently imported.

The IFC cited Ghana’s poultry industry as an example of a sector with significant potential for domestic self‑sufficiency, and said its Local Champions initiative aims to strengthen African businesses and investors to expand investment within the continent.

Diop added that discussions with the government had produced new ideas to attract foreign investors while supporting existing Ghanaian enterprises, underscoring the IFC’s commitment to enhancing the private‑sector capacity and resilience of African economies.

The pipeline comes as the Ghanaian government seeks to position the country as a more attractive destination for private capital following the implementation of economic reforms and measures to restore macroeconomic stability.
